introduction
Hello and Welcome. Here at mistycate.com you'll find
the online art porfolio of Misty
Catherine Rich. As a conceptual artist and illustrator, she prefers to
work with traditional mediums - graphite, pen & ink, charcoal,
watercolour, acrylic & collage - with a style that
ranges from figurative and abstract to editorial and stylized. Although
interested in a wide variety of projects, she hopes to write and
illustrate children's books in the near future. Misty is
currently accepting proposals for commissioned work, as well as currently interested in pro-bono work inquiries ...

The Artist's General Work Process:
This may give you an idea how the artists work process for finished pieces:
Traditional or Digital, most asrtists start with a sketch. At this early stage I usually start with an idea, either for my personal portfolio or given from a art director. I come up with and sketch out at least three visualizations for that one idea and choose which one is expresses the idea most clearly. (For my, composition is important!) Then I layout and pencil in a refined concept drawing of the sketch I chose to go with, using a variety of medium and tracing techniques if it calls for it.
Next
comes the color tests. I make several copies of the finished
sketch and play with different color and mood scenerios using
water-soluable color pencils and pens. I do many of these.
Professional
heavy-grade (Cresent) illustration board is usually my choice for the
finished piece. I've found that it works well with many of my favorite
mediums, like watercolor and acrylic. This piece was an Editorial/Human
Intrest piece for an article in the LA TIMES, and is mixed media on
board. Click HERE for a full preview.
